Srinagar: Strongly condemning the excessive force and crackdown against civilian population in south Kashmirs Shopian district, Joint resistance leaders, Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik urged people to protest against state terrorism after Fridaycongregational prayers on May 5.
In a statement, the resistance leadership expressed their deep concern over increasing use of repressive measures from forces against civilians, students and continuous detention of pro-freedom activists.
Leadership, while referring to state authorities, said that they have waged a war against civilians, & in their appeal to youth, asked to maintain discipline & order during resistance against state sponsored terrorism. Resistance leadership while slamming Indian agencies and policy makers, urged youth to remain cautious and show wisdom.
Demanding immediate release of detained students & political workers, the leadership said that by detaining students, the authorities are creating awful conditions in state. The authorities are harsh towards students, said they and it would further deteriorate already charged situations.
It is of grave concern that police & forces through brutal actions are annoying students and it has badly affected their future, said leaders in their joint statement.
Resistance leadership denounced use of brute forces on civilians in dozens of villages in Shopian district and strongly condemned the brazen act of state terrorism. Forces are laying siege against villages and during crackdown people are thrashed and properties ransacked, said Geelani, Mirwaiz & Yasin Malik. Statement said that people are showered with bullets & pellets during their resentment against this barbarism.
Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik demanded immediate release of all political activists and leaders arrested during peoples uprising in 2016 and said that their detention period is being prolonged on one pretext or the other.
Joint leadership in their statement said that no rule of law exists and state is virtually reeling under martial law.
India should accept defeat as they have lost their credibility and legitimacy and added that authorities through excessive force and military might are continuing forced occupation.
The leadership said that no accountability exists on ground as forces have been vested with unbridled powers to harass people.
It is appalling and explosive situation, said leadership and while reiterating their appeal, asked people to hold protest after Friday congregational prayers against the lawlessness and hooliganism in Shopian and Sopore.
