SRINAGAR: A two-day State level workshop on Basic Techniques of Bio-informatics and Drug Designing commenced at Sri Pratap College here today.
Organized by the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics of the College, the aim of workshop is to introduce participants to an intensive handson training related to bio-informatics tools and their applications in healthcare, agriculture, proteomics, and genomics.
On the inaugural day, various speakers threw light on various aspects of bio-informatics and drug designing.
The speakers highlighted the significance of research in the area and sought a radical change with a thrust for practical Knowledge instead of just theoretical knowledge, besides emphasized on inter-disciplinary research.
Later, the participants presented papers on various sub-themes which include Introduction to various databases of Small-molecules, Introduction to Uniport and retrieving sequence from it, Finding percentage identity of sequences using Clustal Omega, MultAlin etc.
