Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, today convened a meeting to review the plan for rationalization of street vendors in the Srinagar City.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Commissioner SMC, VC SDA, EE R&B, SSP Srinagar, SSP Traffic, Deputy Director SRTC, Enforcement officers of SMC and other concerned officials were present in the meeting.
Seeking details of registered vendors, the Div Com was appraised by the SMC officials that some 2,911 vendors are currently registered with the department.
The Div Com directed for shifting the vendors at Lal Chowk, Batamaloo, Hari Singh High Street, Jehangir Chowk and Naaz Crossing to suitable locations. The instructions have been given in pursuance to the directions of the High Court.
It was also given out during the meeting that Sector-6 Moominabad which is currently under execution can accommodate some 700 vendors when completed.
The Div Com directed the SMC to constitute squads and start an anti-encroachment drive so that all roads are cleared before the Durbar Move. He also asked the Police and Traffic departments to ensure that traffic and pedestrian movements run smooth.
