Srinagar: The Resistance Leadership has condemned detention of leaders and restrictions on condolence meetings saying the people of Kashmir were even deprived of the fundamental right to perform last rites for the dead.
A statement issued today said, the Anjuman -e- Sharie Shiayan leader, Aga Syed Hasan was placed under house arrest in late hours on Thursday night, while as Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mohamad Yasin Malik, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Nayem Ahmad Khan, Peer Saif ullah, and others were already detained in their residences or police stations and were not allowed to attend condolence meeting which was scheduled to be held at Budgam on Friday.
Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik in a joint statement termed these arbitrary arrests as state terrorism and said that restriction on condolence program is unjustified.
Condemning and blaming state authorities for their highhandedness, resistance leaders said, Authorities are choking genuine voices and shrinking space for peaceful political activities. Blaming Indian forces for carrying well thought out plan of genocide in state, these leaders said that we are not even allowed to mourn our martyrs.
Hurriyat said that on April 09, eight precious lives fell to bullets and more than 150 received injuries.
Resistance leaders had decided to hold a condolence meeting after Friday prayers at Behishti Zehra Park and express condolence with the families of Budgam martyrs.
They had summoned a condolence meeting to express solidarity with bereaved families and commemorate these martyrs, however state authorities laid curbs, restricted movement of leadership and arrested resistance leadership.
Rejecting state sponsored restrictions, leaders said that the situation is increasingly turning from bad to worse, resulting in political uncertainty in state.
They hailed people of Srinagar, Ganderbal & Budgam for their exemplary poll boycott and said that this has conveyed a strong message to world community that election drama amidst ten lakh forces is unacceptable and wont serve a substitute for right to self-determination.
They paid rich tributes to slain youth martyred on April 09 and said that their sacrifices wont go waste and nation will achieve its goal. They extended their sympathies with the bereaved families and said that they share their grief and whole nations stands with them.
