Jammu: Contrary to the public perception, the telecom company, Bharat Sanchar Nagar Limited (BSNL), has added around 500 new subscribers every day across the state of Jammu and Kashmir in one year.
This was disclosed by BSNL in response of an RTI online application recently.
RTI activist Raman Sharma said here today that a senior official had informed that during the last one year (March 1, 2016 to Feb 28, 2017), 1,82,422 new subscribers including 91,249 pre-paid customers and 91,173 post-paid clients, at an average of 500 new subscribers every day, joined the BSNL network.
The BSNL J&K Circle has received only 487 complaints of call drop and poor connectivity from March 1, 2016 to Feb 28, 2017 but the company preferred silence over the query related to total number of complaints regarding poor mobile connectivity, said Mr Sharma.
Last year, BSNL had received over 5200 complaints of customers regarding poor mobile connectivity,which were received in less than 11 months, said the RTI activist.
“As on date, the public sector company has a total 14,56,812 customers including 10,64,886 pre-paid subscribers and 3,91,926 post paid customers, he added.
The BSNL official in a reply also disclosed that during the last one year, every week some 110 BSNL subscribers, using the option of Mobile Number Portability, switched to other private mobile networks and the company lost 5756 subscribers; whereas during the same period, opting MNP, only 2570 subscribers of other companies switched over to BSNL.
