Srinagar: A late night fire incident at Shribhat, Alamgiri Bazar in the old city left one person dead and caused extensive damage to several houses and business centrers Thursday night.
Fire broke out in the house of one Mohammad Ishaq Bhat at 10 30 PM and soon engulfed a two nearby structures including a three storied showroom, residents said.
According to the eyewitnesses Abdur Rasheed Wani, a 23 old youth rushed for help of the trapped inmates in the house of Bilal Ahmad Sofi. While Sofi’s house suffered minor damage and inmates were escorted out safely, Rasheed lost his life in the process. His body was later retrieved from the house, according to the residents. The actual cause of his death was being ascertained, police told Kashmir Observer.
The fire caused extensive damage to a 3 storied commercial complex owned by one Shaheena Akhtar.
A sanitary showrooms ‘M/s Mans Trading Company’ run by Hakim Amir and a furnishing showroom ‘M/s Home Decor’ owned by Hakim Nadeem Abass were damaged in the incident.Both the showrooms were housed in the gutted building.
