‘Participating in elections tantamount to disregarding sacrifices’

Srinagar: Incarcerated chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Mohammad Yasin Malik on Thusday.

According to the statement issued to KNS, the JKLF spokesman while quoting the amalgam chief as saying that Wani was a born leader and the days and years of his life from 6th September 1966 to Mar 30, 1990 are a shining mark of his greatness.

He said, “Wani was a humble slave of almighty Allah who whenever took a step, took it in the way of truth and justice. He was a symbol of courage, fearlessness, piousness, passion, and resistance against illegal occupation and injustice.”

Malik said that torture cells, jails and other ‘oppression’ were not able to deter him from his path and he stood firm in the way of freedom movement till his martyrdom.

He said, “People who think that people’s revolution in 1990 was only an outcome of some election rigging are mistaken. In fact, the struggle for freedom led by Wani was not the outcome of any election error only but it was an ongoing process which was speeded up by Shaheed father of Kashmiri nation Muhammad Maqbool Butt‘s martyrdom in 1984.”

JKLF chairman said that it was Wani’s gallant leadership in 1988 that gave courage to hundreds and thousands of young men to stand up for the cause of freedom and independence.

“Wani led this people’s revolution in 1990 and changed the 5000 year old history of Kashmir. It was his leadership that united a nation which was tagged as coward and inactive for a just cause and history bears a witness that thousands of young people followed Wani and sacrificed their lives for the freedom of their nation and till today this process of sacrifices is going on unabated and on daily basis and our young heroes are sacrificing their lives for the righteous cause,” he added.

JKLF chief said that bravery, courage and truthfulness were blended in his blood and cold weathers or hot seasons always failed to stop his march towards truth.

Malik said that the pass out of Tyndale Biscoe school and high class intellectual, Wani was a follower of Quran and Sunnah, a heroic commander, a wise political leader, a refined diplomat, a fiery speaker, a respected student and a great athlete. “Above all he was an inspiring personality who had courage to call a spade a spade and look into the eyes of tyrant and oppressors and fight against it with firmness,” added Malik.

While paying tributes to Shabir Ahmad Sidiqi and other Dargah Hazratbal martyrs, JKLF chief said, “Sidiqi was a religious scholar and a man of wisdom who strived and sacrificed his life for the freedom of Kashmir. He will also be remembered for his philanthropy and work in the field of education and Islam.”

He said that Sidiqi changed the course of history and left his mark on it. 

JKLF chairman while reiterating the call for a complete boycott of upcoming elections said, “Kashmiris should remember the sacrifices rendered by the martyrs and stay away from election.”
He said that participation of any kind in Indian elections is like disregarding the sacrifices of these martyrs. 

Meanwhile, a prayer meeting in connection with the martyrdom day of Ashfaq Majeed wani, Shabir Sidiqi, doctor Abdul Ahad Guru and advocate Jalil Andrabi and other martyrs was held at Mazar I Shuhada Eidgah today.

The spokesman said that led by JKLF vice chairman, Advocate Bashir Ahmad Butt, a large number of people and admirers of martyrs participated in the prayer meeting during which tributes were paid to martyrs.

Various resistance leaders including Shakil Ahmad Bakhshi, Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi, Ghulam Nabi Darzi and others were also present on the occasion.

Father of Abdul Majeed Wani and brother of Ilyas Majeed Wani, along with brothers of Shabir Sidiqi, Syed Gulzar Ahmad Sidiqi and Syed Mushtaq Ahmad Sidiqi were also present in the prayers meetings. (KNS)
