JAMMU: After four days of high voltage drama, police has recovered snatched Ak-47 gun of a constable from the Tawi riverbed here while the mastermind surrendered before the police in Shopian district of Kashmir valley.
“A lead was developed on specific inputs that the mastermind of weapon snatching identified as Aamir, had escaped from Jammu and reached his hometown Shopian,” sources here told UNI.
They said that Shopian police was activated and he was made to surrender yesterday, adding, “on his disclosure, the official rifle Ak-47 of a constable was recovered from the Tawi riverbed here.”
“The weapon was hidden under one of the poles of the bridge,” the sources added and said that the father of the main accused played a key role in making him surrender before the police.
Aamir along with three of his accomplices namely Asif, Shaheed and Masood on March 25 night sprinkled chilly powder in the eyes of Police Constable Mohammad Hanief, hit him with a rod and escaped with the weapon.
Three others were already taken into custody by the police.
Injured constable was deployed with Chairman Anjuman-e-Rasool Maulana Athar Dehlavi, who was in the town after wrapping up his three-day Kashmir visit.
