GANDERBAL: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan on Monday laid the foundation stone of the administrative block while as the District Development Commission (DDC), Tariq Husain Ganaie laid the foundation stone of the mini-academic block of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) in the presence of varsity Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir at its designated campus here.
In addition to the administrative and mini-academic block, the foundation stone for the hostel block was also laid by the Vice-Chancellor of the SK University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-K), Prof Nazeer Ahmad, a statement issued by PRO CUK said.
The administrative block with a plinth area of 6918.44 sqm and total built up area of 12352.70 sqm will come up at an estimated cost of Rs 88.023 Crores. At least 125 rooms shall be available in the administrative block which can be utilized for academic activities too. About 10 departments shall start operating from the building once it is completed, till the academic block comes up.
The mini-academic block, with a plinth area of 520 sqm and total built up area of 1040 sqm will come up at a cost of Rs 5.53 crores and will accommodate two teaching departments while as, the hostel block, having a plinth area of 2251.35 sqm and total built up area of 5664.65, would be constructed at a cost of 43.832 crores and will accommodate two hundred students.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan and the District Development Commission (DDC), Tariq Husain Ganaie asked the executing agencies to complete the projects within the stipulated time.
The duo further directed the concerned agencies to avoid unnecessary delays during the construction work and ensure that the structures are strongly built. He directed the DDC to ensure that no impediments are created by anybody which will hamper the construction activity of the university.
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir, thanked the Divisional Commissioner and the DDC for their support and cooperation in the ongoing works.
He asked the executing agencies, including NBCC, PMCC and M/s Kukreja to work with synergy in order to complete the projects on time.
He said the work on the Pre Engineering Buildings was nearing completion and after they are handed over, the university will shift its academic activities to the designated campus. Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir also urged the locals of the area to extend whole hearted cooperation in the establishment of the university saying that the locals would get tremendously benefited once the university starts functioning in the area.
Prof Mehraj ud Din asked the construction wing of the university to ensure that the work on the buildings dont get stalled due to frivolous issues.
(SKUAST-K), Prof Nazeer Ahmad, while speaking on the occasion, wished best to the construction agencies and asked them to follow the construction norms in letter and spirit.
