Srinagar: Police on Thursday foiled the protest march of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) employees and detained scores of its members after they tried to march towards Srinagars commercial Hub, Lal Chowk.
They protesters including men and women assembled in Srinagars Press Enclave and chanted slogans like we want justice. They were demanding immediate regularization of their duties.
However, the protesters tried to march towards Commercial Hub Lal Chowk during which forces swung into action and detained scores of its members.
Earlier, the protesters told KNS from past several years, the government is making tall promises with them regarding the regularization of their duties but unfortunately not even a single promise has been fulfilled with the employees.
We are on streets today to protest against the failures of the government in regularizing our duties. We have been urging the successive regimes to regularize our duties but unfortunately our plea went in deaf ears. We went from pillar to post to seek justice but unfortunately all in vein, the employees added.
Threatening to launch agitation against the government, the employees said, We will take streets against the government in case they failed to regularize our services at earliest.
Meanwhile, as soon as the protesters tried to march towards Lal Chowk, police swung into action and detained scores of its members. (KNS)
Protesting agriculture casual labourers demand regularisation
Casual labourers of Agriculture Department continued their protest here in Srinagar against the delaying tactics of government in framing the policy for their regularization.
Hundreds of casual labourers assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar and chanted slogans in favour of their demands. The protesting Casual Labourers were carrying placards and banners seeking justice.
While addressing the protesting casual labourers, state president Agriculture Casual Labours Union, Muhammad Yousuf Wani expressed great resentment over the delaying tactics of State Government to frame the policy for regularization of casual labourers.
He said that the complete record of casual labourers is lying the Administrative department for regularization but till date nothing has been done. He urged upon the government that the casual labourers of the Agriculture Department deserves regularization as they are continuously drawing the wages on Muster sheets through Government Treasuries with effect from 1994.
