Srinagar: The association of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) on Friday staged a silent protest to press the government over the demands of regularization.
The members of MGNREGA who had closed their mouths with tape assembled at Srinagars Pratap Park and staged sit-in there.
Notably, on Thursday, scores of MGNREGA association members were detained by the police while they tried to march towards commercial hub Lal Chowk.
Meanwhile, the association today held a silent protest to press the government their demands.
The protesters told KNS from past several years, the government is making tall promises with them regarding the regularization of their duties but unfortunately not even a single promise has been fulfilled with the employees.
We are on streets today to protest against the failures of the government in regularizing our duties. We have been urging the successive regimes to regularize our duties but unfortunately our plea went in deaf ears. We went from pillar to post to seek justice but unfortunately all in vein, the employees added.
Threatening to launch agitation against the government, the employees said, We will take streets against the government in case they failed to regularize our services at earliest.
However, the protesters later dispersed peacefully. (KNS)
