Kupwara: Two days after an ailing woman from Keran in Kupwara died after authorities allegedly refused a chopper facility sought by the family to ferry her to hospital, another woman is battling for her life after she too was refused to be ferried to the hospital.
According to KNS, Mehbooba daughter of Bashirullah Khan was admitted in Keran health centre and was referred to District Hospital Kupwara, 30 kilometres away. But the family had to carry her on wooden cart as no vehicle could ply on snowbound Keran road. The road connectivity to Keran is shut from the last two months due to snow, locals said.
The family alleged that the administration refused to airlift the patient and 40 persons in turn had to carry her for 30 kilometers on wooden cart to a nearest road from where they carried her in a vehicle to Kupwara hospital.
The family said that they contacted the local officials in Keran for help but they ignored their pleas.
The family accused the administration of ill-treating the people of Keran sector.
All attempts to approach Deputy Commissioner Kupwara over phone for a comment failed. (KNS)
