Srinagar: Opposition National Conference today filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of J&K, alleging “various brazen violations” of the model code of conduct at several places in Srinagar parliamentary constituency where bypoll is to take place on April 9.
The complaint was filed by National Conference Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani and asked the EC to ensure free and fair polls.
In the complaint filed with the CEO, Wani highlighted various developmental works either being identified or taken up at various places in Charar-e-Sharief, Budgam, Khan Sahib and Srinagar with the “tacit and brazen approval of the local administration and the state government”.
“These are clear violations of the MCC and we have requested the CEO to take immediate cognisance and action to uphold the guidelines of the MCC and ensure elections take place in a free and fair atmosphere without any undue and illegitimate misuse of government funds and machinery by the state government”, the NC leader said after filing the complaint on behalf of the party.
