Srinagar: The 20th meeting of the University Building Committee (UBC) of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) was held at the Nowgam-II administrative cum academic block here with Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir in chair.
The meeting was also attended by Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Finance Officer, Mr. Bashir Ahmad Haji, senior faculty members, experts from the concerned field and senior functionaries in the administration.
Addressing the participants, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir expressed strong dismay over the lack of coordination between the executing agencies entrusted with the job of constructing the Pre Engineered Buildings at the designated campus at Ganderbal. Taking strong exception to the frequent delays in the completion of the PEB, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir directed the concerned officials to expedite the work and complete the project immediately, so that the university would shift the academics and other activities to the Ganderbal campus.
He said the matter about the unnecessary delays by the executing agencies would be taken up with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and the Honorable Chief Minister of the Jammu and Kashmir.
While informing the newly appointed UBC members about the difficulties and impediments faced by the university during the construction process of the campus at Ganderbal, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said that the low load bearing capacity of the land was primarily responsible for the delay in the construction of the permanent structures. He said that the MHRD and the State Government have already been intimated about the poor quality of the land and the presence of the water bodies at the Ganderbal campus.
Earlier, while welcoming the guests, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, enumerated the steps taken by the university to counter the difficulties during the construction process. The university has taken several initiatives in order to accelerate the pace of work, but the executing agencies have failed to keep up with the pace, he said. Prof. Zargar asked the officials of the concerned agencies to work in tandem in order to complete the project without further delays.
