PULWAMA: Spontaneous strike was observed in Pulwama district areas of south Kashmir on third day against the killings of two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants and two civilians including a 15-year old boy during an encounter.
According to GNS, all the shops, commercial establishments, educational institutes and petrol pumps were closed in the district while as transport was also off the roads. Two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, Jehangir and Muhammad Shafi, were killed in a fierce encounter at Padgampura with government forces.
After the killings of militants, fifteen year old Amir Nazir was killed in the firing of government forces during clashes but police said he died as a result of stray bullet. Another civilian identified as Jalaluddin died as a result of suffocation due to teargas shells smoke.
The killings sparked off massive anti-India protests in the district and in other parts of the Valley. Meanwhile, hundreds of people thronged the residents of slain militants and civilians to express solidarity and sympathy with their families.
Massive clashes between angry youth and government forces erupted at Tahab and koil villages of Pulwama today. According to reports, the youths resorted to massive stone-pelting on forces deployed in Tahab and Koil and the forces retaliated by lobbing teargas shells. The situation in these villages remained tense due to clashes.
