Srinagar: Train service from Srinagar to Banihal in Jammu region remained suspended for the second consecutive day Friday for security reasons following strike called by United Resistance Leadership in the Kashmir valley against the killing of two civilians in Pulwama, where two Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter with forces Thursday.
”We have also suspended all trains on Srinagar-Baramulla tracks today,” said a railway official.
He said all trains running on Badgam-Srinagar-Pulwama, Anantnag and Qazigund to Banihal in Jammu region track remained suspended for the second day today for security reasons.
He said it was also decided to suspend all train runs between Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir today.
He said the decision to suspend the train service was taken on the advice by local authorities and police following apprehension of violence.
United Resistance Leadership had called for strike today( Friday). However, after the civilian deaths in Pulwama during the encounter, the separatists issued fresh strike call last evening for today.
In the past railway property had suffered massive damage during protests in the valley, where the train service remained suspended for about six months during summer unrest last year.
