SRINAGAR: In the back drop of several incidents of violence in Kashmir valley, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the security situation of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said that the top officials of home ministry attended the meeting. Singh was briefed on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The Home Minister Lauded security forces for dealing with internal and external threats in Jammu and Kashmir and assured them of the Centre’s full support in maintaining peace in the state, sources in the MHA while quoting home Minster said.
Sources said that the Union Home Minister appreciated the way army, police, CRPF and BSF have dealt with law and order problems, militancy within the state and infiltration bids from across the Line of Control.
Sources told KNS that Home Minister, however, asked the security grid to remain alert ahead of the summer as there might be attempts from across the LoC to push in militants into the Kashmir Valley.
Sources said that Home Minister was briefed about the various measures taken to check infiltration and on the counter-insurgency operations in the hinterland, they said.
Sources further said that the security for the upcoming Parliamentary elections for Anantnag and Srinagar seat also came up for discussion during the meeting.
Sources adding that the Home Minister asks the state government and security officials to take steps that will ensure a general sense of security among the grassroots level representatives.
Sources said that during the meeting, the Home Minister sought reports from the participants about the status of law and order, over all security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said that senior officials representing different security agencies briefed the Home Minister about the required steps to be taken to maintain law and order and ensure the security plan for the coming summer.
Complimenting the role of the State Police and other security agencies sources quoting Rajnath said, it is always a challenging and daunting task for the security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir but due to sincere and effective efforts of all security agencies, they are ensuring peace in the state.
Sources said that the Union Home Minister also stressed upon better coordination among agencies and the civil administration. To foil any attempt by troublemakers to disrupt peaceful atmosphere, close liaison should be maintained at every level and the officers supervising different components should be briefed accordingly, sources quoting him said.
According to sources he also said that a comprehensive security grid and deployment mechanism needs to be formulated to counter any untoward incident. The Union Minister also stressed on maintaining alertness on the borders, they added.
Sources said Singh, who was given a detailed briefing on the infiltration bids in Kashmir asked security forces to take all steps to avoid casualties of both civilians and security personnel.
Meanwhile, sources said that on the directions of Home Minister the Union Home Secretary is expected to visit Jammu and Kashmir next week.
Sources said that home secretary will hold meetings with top officials of the state government, police, paramilitary forces and Army and take stock of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
