SRINAGAR: J&K police on Thursday evening said that a suspected militant was killed in a brief encounter in North Kashmirs Bandipora district.
We had specific inputs of a militant travelling in a vehicle and our men had laid a naka near police station Bandipora, SP Bandipora, Zulfikar Azad, told the Kashmir Observer.
When we tried to stop the vehicle, the onboard militant opened fire to which our cops retaliated resulting in the death of the militant, he added.
However, the SP further said that an Army officer of 14 RR based in the district was injured in the shootout.
The slain militant has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Shergojri resident of Malangam Bandipora.
One pistol and a grenade was recovered from his possession.
