Awantipora: A gunfight between government forces and militants broke out in Awantipora area of south Kashmirs Pulwama district Thursday.
Reports said that troops launched an anti-militant operation in Padgampora, Awantipora after receiving a tip-off about the presence of militants in the area early morning,
Local sources said that they heard some gun shots initially which was followed by firing after intervals.
Sources said that three to four militants were suspected to be hiding in a house.
This is the second major encounter in the area in last four days.
Earlier, two militants were killed in a gunfight in Tral area of the same district. A policeman was also killed in the gunfight.
Following the gunfight, the Banihal-Baramulla train service was stopped as the railway track moves close to Padgampora village.
