SRINAGAR: Days after militants warned a police officers family in South Kashmir to ask their ward to quit or face the consequences, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief on Wednesday said in retaliation that the militants too have families.
“Militants should realise they too have families. Let militants take this as a warning,” Jammu and Kashmir director general of Police, Dr Shesh Paul Vaid, was quoted by NDTV.
“This is between police and militants, families should not be brought into this conflict. If the police start doing this, what will happen to their families?”
The warning came after militants reportedly entered into the home of a senior police officer and warned his relatives that he should quit his job or face the consequences.
Officials said that at least 10 gun-wielding militants damaged electronic appliances and broke window panes at the family residence of the Dy SP-rank officer who is currently posted in Srinagar on Monday night, reported The Indian Express.
It Is Threat To Families of Militants: MLA
Asking J&K DGP not to forget that police and other security agencies claim to be law abiding agencies, MLA Langate Er Rasheed on Wednesday sharply reacted to Dr SP Vaids warning to militants, asking them not to forget that they too have families.
Undoubtedly, he said, the families of militants and cops should not be tortured or harassed by either of the sides but the state DGP needs to be reminded that it is the section of police officers who have been so brutal towards relatives and families of militants since long. Infact, one of the core reasons of youth joining militancy has been the humiliating behaviour, torture and atrocities carried out by security forces especially J&K police on the relatives of militants. Who doesnt know that how brutal a section of police has been towards even common men for expressing their views on political issues.
What state DGP has threatened, by asking militants not to forget that they too have families, has exposed the claims of JK Police of being a disciplined and law abiding force, he questioned. Should DGP and other top cops answer that if militants break the law of the land does it permit or justify that police will follow them. Although what DGP has threatened is already being executed on ground but his direct threat has yet again confirmed that there is complete Jungle Raj in the state and Kashmiris have no rights, whosoever.
The lawmaker appealed the families of police officers not to forget that they are part of the society and resolution to Kashmir dispute is in the interests of everyone including the local police cops, as such the families of police officers are morally duty bound to advice their near and dear ones serving in police not to cross red lights or forget that they are first sons of the soil, before being something else.
