Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Friday held a demonstration after Friday prayers in civil lines here, against mass rape by Army in the twin villages of Kunan and Poshpora in Kupwara district of north Kashmir 26 years ago.
Scores of JKLF leaders and activists hit the streets after Friday prayers at Budshah Chowk in civil lines, a day after 26th anniversary of the incident, and demanded justice for the victims of the mass rape.
Shouting slogans in favour of their demands, the protestors later staged a sit-in protest near Budshah Chowk. It is ironic that the victims are still awaiting justice after 26 years of the incident. The old victim, who was 80-year-old when the incident happened, died few years back longing for punishment to the culprits, the protestors said.
Over 60 women, including an 80-year-old woman, were gang raped by Indian Army during and search operation in the twin villages on the intervening night of February 22 and February 23 in 1991
