SRINAGAR: As per joint programme of resistance camp, leaders and workers of various resistance groups staged peaceful protest demonstrations at Hyderpora in uptown Srinagar where they paid their salute and tributes to political prisoners.
We are dutybound to pursue freedom movement till the goal is achieved, the leaders said addressing the protestors.
Addressing the protest demonstration, and terming the treatment meted to detainees, Noor Mohamad Kalwal, Raja Meraj-ud-Din Kalwal and Gh Nabi Zaki said, behaviour of authorities with detainees is unethical and unlawful.
A statement issued by Hurriyat Conference (G) quoting Kalwal while denouncing PDP led administration, said, many youths are languishing without any trial and thousands were arrested during their regime and even elderly and minors were arrested.
They have surpassed all records and although the infamous safety act has been declared as heartless and callous by international community, still there seems no end and this heartless law continues to haunt the youth of state, said Kalwal.
Raja Meraj-ud-Din in his address while referring to gloomy situation in jails, said, detainees are subjected to vengeance and while referring to Tihar jail. Administration is run by Tamil Nadu Special Police and they have virtually turned it into Guantanamo Bay. The detainees are frisked, interrogated, harassed and humiliated by jail authorities.
There is no procedure nor any proper medical facility for detainees, said Kalwal and ailing detainees are not provided with timely and proper treatment nor standard medicine is provided to them.
Referring to the communal mindset of staff, Kalwal said, their behaviour with detainees is heartless and they derive pleasure from their arrogant and callous behaviour while dealing with detainees.
He said, those lodged in Kathua and Udhampur, face immense hardships as jail staff is creating unnecessary impediments and hurdles while meeting with their family members. The families are harassed even denied their meeting with jail inmates.
Gh Nabi Zaki while reiterating demand for immediate release of political prisoners, said, we will never forget their contribution and nation stands with them as they are presenting supreme sacrifices for ongoing freedom movement. We will continue our struggle and we will raise our voice till they are their released.
We want to convey these Delhi groomed henchmen that these arbitrary detentions wont deter us from pursuing our cherished mission and however it will rejuvenate new spirits in our mission, he said.
Denouncing PDP for their rhetoric for battle of ideas, Zaki said, their parroting is simply a political stunt and they stand exposed. It is their political gimmick. The atrocities inflicted by PDP is unjustified and unethical.
The protestors present while showing their concern for detainees, amidst high pitch sloganeering demanded immediate release of detainees and expressed their sympathy with those lodged in different jails.
