Slain Shopian Youth’s Family ‘Forced’ To Accept Ex-gratia, Job

SHOPIAN: A family from South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday accused security agencies of “using force” on them to accept ex-gratia and government job as compensation for one of their family members who according to them died in CRPF firing on 10 July last year in Hall area of Pulwama district.

“I neither want any money nor government job. I want Security Agencies to stop harassing me and stop visiting our house. Despite my refusal, they (Security men) have been pressurizing me to accept government compensation and job for my son. How can I take it as I have lost my young son and I can’t compromise with his blood,” Muhammad Ahsan Bhat, a resident of Keigam Shopian, told a local news gathering agency – CNS.

He said that his 24-year-old son, Muzaffar Ahmed Bhat, lost his life on 10 July, 2016 after CRPF pumped bullets into his body. “My slain son was an Auto Driver by profession and was not part of any procession when he was shot dead in Hall village of Pulwama,” he said. “I wanted a fair probe into the killing but instead of probe, government wanted to shut my mouth offering currency notes and government job. Security agencies have been harassing me and my family members and asking us to accept government offer, but as a father, my conscience is not permitting me to do so. I appeal State Human Rights Commission to look into the matter and ask Security Agencies to stop forcing me to accept the ex-gratia and government job.”

His another son, Feroz Ahmed, also said that he can’t accept government job as this according to him will hurt him forever. “If I accept the offer, it will always remind me about my dead brother,” he said.
