SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, while reacting to reports regarding the Hawal massacre said that it comes as no surprise to the people of Kashmir who have no faith in the eye washes called “investigations” into countless massacres and brutal killings by the forces against unarmed mourners and protesters.
Speaking at the Friday Congregation at Jamia Masjid Srinagar Mirwaiz said, when a state’s all institutions be it the repressive policies of the executive the ruthless attitude of the armed forces and even the functioning of the judiciary are all on the same page in crushing a people’s political aspirations to the extent of eliminating them physically, what justice can be expected to be delivered to the victims from these so called investigations? When even the fourth estate, the media of that state to a large extent supports the state by suppressing and distorting facts to mislead its people in the name of nationalism and promoting national interest and the intellectuals civil society and rights organizations of that state by and large also look the other way, to the grave human rights abuses being perpetuated, there is very little hope and scope for justice.
Mirwaiz said, It is appalling and against international law that the head of the armed forces of a state issues open threats and warnings of harsh action i.e. Killing against non combatant civilians.
