Srinagar: Alleging that the Kashmir Valley based traders are being victimised at Lakhanpur entry post, Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) said authorities are deliberately seizing goods laden trucks to ‘further crumble the economy of Kashmir’.
“The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sales Tax has been deliberately seizing goods laden trucks headed for Kashmir to further crumble the economy of Kashmir. The trucks are being kept unduly seized for weeks, these Babus are calling the shots, and this is a bid to frustrate Kashmiri traders so that they give up trade,” KEA chairman Mohammad Yasin Khan, who is also President of Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), said.
He alleged that the State Government was directly responsible for this mess. “Time and again we have been telling the Government to end two entry system for Kashmir. If Jammu traders have only one entry, why double trouble for Kashmir,” Khan asked.
Khan appealed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu to take remedial measures without any further delay.
“The DC Sales Tax Lakhanpur should open a window in Kashmir so that even if there’s some problem with regard to documental formalities the same can be solved in Kashmir without trader unnecessarily needing to go to Lakhanpur again and again,” Khan added
