Srinagar: The night temperature across Kashmir division, including Kargil, slipped further below the freezing point, even as the day temperature has risen and settled above the normal for this time of the year Friday.
The border town of Kargil and Leh in Ladakh region continued to shiver at minus 15.8 degree and minus 14.7 degree respectively.
A Met department spokesperson said that weather will remain dry during the next five days which could result in further dip in the night temperature.
Kargil was the coldest place in the region at minus 15.8 degree followed by Leh, where mercury further dipped and settled at minus 14.7 degree, against minus 11.9 degree recorded yesterday.
He said sky will be mainly clear during the next 24 hours in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 2 degree and minus 14 degree respectively.
Meanwhile, world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where the slopes were already under about 10 feet of snow, continued to remain the coldest place in the valley. The night temperature further dipped and settled at minus 9.4 degree, against minus 9 degree recorded yesterday. The temperature at the resort, which attracts tourists, including adventure lovers and skiers from around the globe, was three degree below normal.
People woke up to yet another sunny morning in the summer capital, Srinagar after witnessing below normal night temperature. The mercury further dipped in Srinagar and settled at minus 3 degree during the night, against minus 1.2 degree recorded yesterday.
But, the day temperature due to sunshine remained above normal. Yesterday, the day temperature in the summer capital was 11.8 degree, which was three notches above normal.
The Met spokesperson said that sky will be partially cloudy during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 12 degree and minus 2 degree respectively.
The night temperature at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100-km from here in south Kashmir, also witnessed a dip of about four degree from yesterday and settled at minus 9.2 degree, which is about three degree below normal.
