Handwara: Police on Thursday foiled a seminar organised by the Awami Ittehad Party’s (AIP) Kupwara wing to commemorate the 4th death anniversary of Afzal Guru, a spokesperson of AIP said.
He said that the AIP chief Er Rasheed was arrested in Handwara after he tried to march towards town hall Kupwara, the scheduled venue of the seminar.
Police stopped Rasheed from reaching the venue and arrested him along with dozens of AIP supporters. The venue has also been sealed.
The AIP spokesperson Inam-un-Nabi has condemned the police action and said that disallowing of a peaceful seminar vindicates that the state is being run by police and security agencies.
