Srinagar: The Artisans of Srinagar who suffered loss in the 2014 flood, on Wednesday staged protest against the government for failing to compensate them.
Scores of artisans mostly women assembled at Press Enclave Srinagar, slogans we want justice.
The protesting artisans said that they have suffered tremendous loss in 2014 flood and government has left them on gods mercy. More than two years passed, the government has miserably failed to compensate us thereby leaving the Artisans to suffer, the protesters said.
Fahmeeda Begum, one of the protesters said that the present regime has ignored them. We went from pillar to post seeking compensation but unfortunately, all in vain, Fahmeeda said.
She said that she is the lone bread earner of her family and her business got affected due to the 2014 deluge. I lost everything in the deluge and since then my family is facing tremendous hardships, she added.
Fahmeeda said that the government must not ignore their plights and should provide compensation to them as per announcement. The promises made by the current regime over relief and rehabilitation of the flood affected people seems to be cruel joke as so far we didnt receive a single penny from the government. We demand that the promises made by the government should be implemented on the ground so that we (Flood affected Artisans) could feel a sigh of relief, she demanded.
Meanwhile, the protesters later dispersed peacefully. (KNS)
