Sopore: Residents of Adipora village of Sopore town in Baramulla district have been deprived of mandatory Aadhaar cards resulting into the inconvenience in their legitimate affairs.
The locals of the area said that the Aadhaar card, which is mandatory for transferring direct cash, subsidies to beneficiaries and acquiring other services, related to the day-to-day life is yet to be issued to them by the authorities concerned.
They said despite repeated pleas to the authorities, nothing has been done than false assurances. It has been more than a year now, the government officials of department concerned must issue such an important card. Wherever we go, be it the bank, to avail subsidies, apply scholarships or to apply any service, the Aadhaar card is required, said Javeed Ahmad Mir, a local resident.
They demand that the Aadhaar cards must be issued to the villagers immediately to avoid inconvenience to the residents.
When contacted, Sub-District Magistrate Sopore, Bashir Ahmad told a local news gathering agency, We are aware of the issue, but right now the Aadhaar cards issuing process has been temporarily stopped by the Government of India. Once process would be resumed, we will send a team to dispatch the Aadhaar Cards to the aggrieved people.
Pertinently, Government of India has made it mandatory for people to have Aadhaar cards.
