Jammu: J&K Government on Friday said that it has directed all the Deputy Commissioners concerned to carry out snow clearance operations on war-footing basis and ensure restoration of electricity in all the affected areas.
Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri today while informing the Legislative Assembly about the measures taken by the Government to restore essential services in Kashmir in the aftermath of the fresh snowfall, said that the ground staff of PDD and R&B Department is working round-the-clock to restore power supply and clear the roads, an official spokesperson said.
He said the Deputy Commissioners of all the snow-bound districts are supervising the restoration work on ground.
Regarding the dewatering of Srinagar roads and alleys, the Minister said that the Government has pressed 18 snow clearance machines and 16 dewatering pumps into service in Srinagar.
Earlier, several members raised the issue regarding restoration of essential services in Kashmir post-snowfall. The members sought immediate restoration of services in the snow affected areas.
DGP Reviews Situation
Director General of Police (DGP), Dr S P Vaid has alarmed the police administration to extend all possible help to the people and the civil administration to lessen the problems of common man in snow bound areas.
He said that heavy snowfall in the Valley and remote areas of Jammu region has engulfed the common man and the men in Khaki have to brace up for their help in this time of need.
Through Video Conferencing held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Jammu Friday evening, an official spokesperson said that Dr Vaid took stock of the situation arisen in some parts of Valley due to heavy snows fall.
He got first hand report from Range DIsGP and District Superintendents of Police about the situation. He discussed various measures to be taken for safety of people and rescue operations in avalanche hit areas.
He stressed upon the officers to gear up the field staff and coordinate with the civil administration to ease the peoples problems and aware the people about the precautions in avalanche prone areas.
He said personnel of JKP have the experience to deal such situations and provide succour to the people on various counts. He said due to poor communication and other basic needs, it has become imperative upon the cops to extend all possible help to lessen the problems of the masses.
During the conference, the DGP discussed latest situation with the officers in their respective districts. He asked them to brief their subordinates units to remain vigilant for meeting any exigency caused by the avalanches and heavy snow fall.
DGP asked to mobilize Civil Defence activists for providing necessary assistance to the suffering people in these areas and work in close coordination with the civil administration for mitigating the peoples problems.
Dr Vaid expressed his grief and sorrow over the loss of human lives due to snow avalanches in the Valley. Condoling the deaths, he said that it was a great loss for the Nation and all ranks of JKP stand by the bereaved families at this junction of sorrow.
