Srinagar: Two banks, a post office and about 20 shops were gutted in a devastating fire incident at Court Road near Lal Chowk in the heart of summer capital, Srinagar in the wee hours Friday.
An official of Fire and Emergency (F&E) said that fire broke out at Court Road in the wee hours today.
He said about two dozen fire tenders and other vehicles were rushed from F&E headquarter at Batmaloo and other parts of the city.
He said exact details about the loss in the fire was being ascertained but Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Vijya Bank besides a post office and about 20 shops and business establishments were damaged in the fire.
He said since it was still smoldering , several fire tenders were still there.
The cause of fire was not immediately known, he said adding no one was injured.

Srinagar: Former Minister for Public Works and MLA Amirakadal, Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari today visited Court Road Lal Chowk and took stock of the damages caused to the shops and other business establishments in a late night devastating fire incident.
Bukhari was accompanied by Farooq Ahmad Lone, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Abdul Majeed Raina, Joint Commissioner Works SMC, senior officers of fire services department, senior Police, PDD and revenue officers. Mohammad Ashraf Dar, PDP zone president Amirakadal also accompanied Bukhari.
