Jammu: Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu Wednesday announced Aiwaan-e-Sahafat for the journalist fraternity of Kashmir.
Delivering his third Budget speech today in the JK legislative assembly, Dr Drabu said that during his first tenure as Chief Minister, late Mufti Sayeed had donated a government building at a prime location in Jammu to set up the Jammu Press Club.
“Following this precedent, the Honble Chief Minister, who is also the Minister for Information, desired that the building currently occupied by the Employment Department at Polo View Srinagar be handed to the journalist fraternity for setting up Aiwaan e Sahafat, a Kashmir Press Centre”, he said.
Besides, this Finance Minister said that the newspaper editors had made a compelling case for revising the advertisement tariffs during a meeting with him. Accordingly, I propose to increase the tariffs to cover the inflation and increased cost of newsprint and other materials. The Information Department will notify the tariff hike.
