Srinagar: Tasadduq Mufti, the brother of the chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, and son of late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed Saturday joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the first death anniversary of his late father.
He announced his joining fathers party at a function held at Indoor Stadium Srinagar to remember late Mufti.
Speaking on the occasion, Tasadduq said that he was inspired by his late father. I am not joining PDP being a son of late Mufti but only after being inspired by the amount of work PDP has done for the state and people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“I have remained aloof from politics all my life. But today I have joined the PDP officially and it is a very important day of my life. I will walk with you and take your aspirations along
He said his dream was to clean up politics in Kashmir.
“I have felt the pace of government work. The speed with which work happens here, what dream can be realized?” he asked.
A graduate from American Film Institute, Tasaduq has shown interest in social work and environment. He had left Kashmir in 1989 and worked as a cinematographer in Bollywood. His entry into politics was anticipated since he addressed PDP legislators and leaders at Sayeeds condolence meeting last year.
Tasaduq is likely to contest parliamentary elections from his home constituency of Anantnag. Srinagar and Anantnag Lok Sabha constituencies in the Valley have been vacant since PDP leader Tariq Hameed Karra quit the party and Mehbooba took over as the chief minister and vacated her parliament seat last year.
