Srinagar: Calling for the implementation of January 5, 1949 resolution of the United Nations and other resolutions passed by the world body on Kashmir, Hurriyat Conference (M) Thursday said the failure of the world body in the implementation of these resolutions for the past seven decades had become the cause of a colossal human tragedy in Jammu Kashmir.
In a statement issued, Hurriyat (M) said keeping the vexed Kashmir issue pending had not only held peace and stability of the subcontinent hostage but also created an atmosphere of political uncertainty in the entire South Asia region.
Appealing the new Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres to take note of the countless sacrifices of the life and properties of Kashmiri people, the statement said the APHC hopes that the new Secretary General will make serious efforts in bringing peace and stability in the region by taking meaningful steps for implementing the UN resolutions on Kashmir and thereby uphold the credibility of UN and help in avoiding confrontation between the two nuclear neighbours India and Pakistan on Kashmir.
Hurriyat (M) also paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of January 6, 1993 Sopore Massacre on their 24th martyrdom anniversary and said history was witness that innocent Kashmiris had been at the receiving end of brutal state terrorism and aggression since 1947 and over the years had borne the brunt of dozens of such massacres.
The conglomerate said 24 years ago, 53 innocent civilians were killed mercilessly in Sopore Massacre by government forces and property worth crores of rupees set ablaze.
Hurriyat (M) paid tributes to the 53 martyrs of Sopore and all the martyrs of Kashmirs ongoing resistance movement and termed these sacrifices as the precious assets of the movement and said fulfilling the mission of these martyrs was the joint responsibility of the people and resistance leadership and the struggle will continue till these sacrifices reach bear fruit and the movement reaches its logical conclusion.
