Srinagar: Summer capital Srinagar on Wednesday received season’s first snowfall in morning hours followed by light rain due to which temperature plunged and the capital city witnessed season’s coldest.
After light rain during night hours, City came under thin blanket of snow after snowfall at around 8 am today. The snow however melted instantly and light rains lashed the snow for an hour. The rainfall brought the temperature considerably down and the city recorded coldest day at 3.2 degree Celsius, five notches below normal.
Reports of light snowfall were received from all upper reaches of the Valley including Gulmarg, Pir Ki Gali, Pahalgam, Jawahar Tunnel, Zojila, Sonamarg and Kupwara heights. According to MeT Department, the light rain or snow would occur and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 6 degree and minus 1 degree respectively in Srinagar during the next 24 hours. In other parts of the Valley, the MeT has predicted light to moderate snow and rainfall.
On Tuesday, the prolonged dry spell ended across Kashmir after rains in plains and snow in higher reaches, thus bringing relief to people.
