New Delhi: Cracking the whip on a defiant BCCI, the Supreme Court on Monday removed its president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke, saying they should “forthwith cease and desist from” the board’s work.
The apex court also decided to initiate contempt proceedongs against Thakur by seeking his response as to why he should not be held liable for obstructing the implementation of the court’s directions aimed at reforming BCCI.
A bench headed by Chief Justice T S Thakur said that working of BCCI will be looked after by a committee of administrators and requested senior advocate Fali S Nariman and senior advocate Gopal Subramanian, who was assisting in the matter as amicus curaie, to assist the court in nominating persons of impeccable integrity as the members in the committee of administrators.

New Delhi: In his first reaction over the Supreme Court’s judgement, sacked Board of Control for Cricket in India President Anurag Thakur today said the ongoing row between the board and Lodha panel was not his personal battle.
Issuing a video on microblogging site Twitter, Mr Thakur said,”For me, it was not a personal battle. It was a battle for the autonomy of the sports body. I respect the SC as any citizen should.”
“SC feels that retired judges can do their best for cricket. I wish them all the best and I am sure that Indian cricket will do their best under their guidance,” said he.
An emotional Mr Thakur said,”I had the honor of serving the Indian cricket. Over the years, the Indian cricket saw its very best in terms of administration and development of the game.”
“BCCI is the best managed sports organisation in the country with defined procedures. India has the best cricket infrastructure built and maintained by state associations with the help of BCCI,” added he.
“India has more quality players than anywhere in the world. My commitment to the best of Indian cricket and autonomy of sports will always remain,” concluded the 42-year-old.
Earlier today, the apex court in its order removed the top official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, along with the Secretary of the Board Ajay Shirke, from their posts for not complying with its orders to implement the Lodha Committee reforms.
