Srinagar: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industries (KCCI), Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), Civil Society Forum Kashmir (CSFK) and Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) on Monday aghast over reports of Dr Javaid Chowdhary being considered for the coveted post of Principal of GMC Srinagar.
According to the joint statement issued to KNS, the groups said that the doctor has huge question mark on his past as MS and HOD at GB Pant hospital where hundreds of infants died right under his nose in 2012 and has many cases registered against him in vigilance, Crime Branch and other departments.
The Civil Society Forum Kashmir including Kashmir Economic Alliance, KCCI, FCIK, and imminent doctors have expressed shock after learning through media reports that Government was considering Dr Javaid Chowdhary’s name for the post of Principal GMC Srinagar.
If true it is appalling that the Government could not find a better candidate for such an important position. Dr Javaid Chowdharys past record is extremely concerning. He was the person under whose nose as Head of Department Pediatrics, MS of GB Pant hospital hundreds of children mostly infants died, they said.
They said that the justice of which is still awaited and no society can forget deaths of hundreds of infants, children and kids.
The group said that the first enquiry report submitted by the Director SKIMS had clearly pointed towards gross dereliction of duty for such disastrous outcome.
They said that it is unfortunate that a person with such a track record is being considered for the post of head of all associated hospitals of GMC in the valley.
If correct, the move will certainly expose the false and high claims of government of being honest and sincere towards the society. Entire Kashmir valley is dependent on associated hospitals of GMC for territory care, the functioning of such institutions cannot be given into the hands of such people, they said.
They appealed to the Chief Minister to personally intervene in the matter and stop it.
The state has enough competent doctors with excellent performance record who can be given the responsibility of such a crucial post, they said. (KNS)
