Srinagar:Extreme cold weather conditions continue in Kashmir Valley with most parts of the paradise on earth recording sub-zero temperatures.
Sub-zero temperatures have resulted in freezing of water supply lines in many areas of the Valley, while fringes of several other water bodies were also frozen. Srinagar, at minus 4.2 degrees Celsius, experienced freezing night, while Leh, in Ladakh region of the state, registered a minimum of minus 13.8 degrees Celsius, the coldest night of the season so far.
However, there was some relief in the cold conditions in the parts of the Valley and Ladakh region as the night temperature went up slightly.
The tourist resorts Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded minus 5.3 and minus 3.5 respectively.
Meanwhile, the extreme cold conditions have led to anxiety among locals as the 40-day long period of extreme cold known as the Chillai Kalan sets foot on December 21 and there are no signs of snowfall in the Valley as of now.
The dry winter also predicts water scarcity and drought in the summer for Kashmiris.
