Srinagar: The 300 KW Medium Wave transmitter at Radio Kashmir Srinagar is lying defunct from past four days leaving the station partially defunct.
Sources in the Radio Kashmir Srinagar told KNS that the 300 kW Medium Wave transmitter is lying defunct from past four days and there seems no one from the higher ups taking any pains to get it repaired.
Instead of repairing the transmitter, the officials were asked to use an alternate, which is only 100 kW MW transmitter that has affected the transmission capacity of the only public sector radio station in the valley. The far off areas are not able to receive the signal because of the weak transmitter, they said.
They said that the 100 kW Medium Wave is not capable to broadcast the programmes in far-flung areas.
Meanwhile, there is another issue at Radio Kashmir, which is heating arrangement in the days of biting cold. Official sources wishing not to be named told KNS that the heating plant that was supposed to be started from November 15 is yet to be made functional.
The lack of heating arrangements has extended hardships to the employees. We have written a letter to the higher authorities in this regard as well, but received no response, they said.
Director Engineering, Radio Kashmir, Rajesh Babu told KNS that there was a major problem in the 300 kW MW transmitter a few days back but that has been repaired now.
Babu refuted the claims made by some officials, saying the heating plant has been made functional a week ago. (KNS)
