Srinagar: Only three flights were able to operate from Srinagar International Airport while the rest of the flights were cancelled due dense fog, which resulted in poor visibility.
Three flight were able to operate from the international airport in the morning, an official of the airport told UNI.
However, as the day progressed, the visibility decreased due to which no flight could land or take off from the airport in the evening, he said.
As many as 17 flights operate between Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Delhi on a daily basis. Hundreds of passengers had to return from the airport after cancellation of flights.
“Our flight was supposed to take off at 1500 hrs from the airport, but when we reached the airport, we were informed that the flight has been cancelled. We have a connected flight to Saudi Arabia from Delhi. It is very frustrating, a disappointed Javeed Ahmad said.
However, passengers booked for morning flights were able to travel to Delhi.
A group of three Rajya Sabha members from the Jammu and Kashmir had met Defence Minister last month and requested him to make some arrangements so that flights could also operate even when there is poor visibility.
