Srinagar: A youth from South Kashmir’s Shopian district who detention under Public Safety Act was quashed by Jammu Kashmir High Court was re-arrested by authorities outside Kathua Jail in Jammu.
Manzoor Ahmed Bhat son of Ghulam Hasan of Hermain Shopian was arrested by police in August this year on charges of taking part in pro-freedom protests. District Magistrate Shopian booked him under PSA and subsequently he was shifted to Kathua Jail.
While quashing his detention under PSA, Justice Muhammad Yaqoob Mir directed State Government to release him without any delay, however, according to his family members, as they produced the court orders before the Jail authorities; they re-arrested him on the gate and informed us that his period of detention has been extended by six more months.
The family members told CNS that the father of the incarcerated youth who is the father of four daughters has been undergoing treatment at SMHS Hospital as he suffered brain-stroke after meeting his Manzoor inside Kathua Jail.
“Manzoor is not a stone-pelter. His only fault is that he was part of pro-freedom protest like all others in the district Shopian,” they said.
