The people of the valley of Kashmir are witnessing troubled days ever since the popular Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter. Though strict restrictions were imposed everywhere to thwart the processions, they broke out nevertheless. The ultimate outcome was so deadly that almost 90 people fell to the bullets of security forces and several others got grievously injured while some among them also lost their one or both eyes.
Hospitals witnessed severe and awful scenes of mourning and wailing over tender bodies of children. The use of inhuman ways of crowd control received condemnations from all corners of the world. Bullets and pellets wrought havoc on the lives of people. This turmoil once again united people to fight for their right of self determination.
While the valley remained caged with continuous curfews and hartals, several attempts to restore the normalcy have proved fruitless. On one hand the ineffective ways of dealing with the turmoil and on the other United Hurriyat has continued with the practice of issuing uninterrupted calendars. What added fuel to fire were the harsh and unsympathetic statements from the ruling party.

Although in the past too, people have witnessed unrests like that in 2008 and 2010 but the uprising now has degraded the faith of the people in the political system. Even small children are raising pro Azadi slogans which are way ahead of their age.
Restricting people from following their religious practices has generated a feeling of disgust among the people towards the authorities. . Caging Hurriyat leaders in their homes and then soliciting their help in controlling the unrest makes no sense. How on earth can one expect any sort of help from anyone who has been confined to the four walls and then blaming him for his helplessness.
Even the dead are sprayed with pellets, not to talk of the mourners. What is even more cause of concern is the callous attitude of the government when it raises tall claims to send students to schools for education. Education can in no way be sufficient to promise a bright future to any student if the environment in which the education is imparted, is vicious and violent.
