SRINAGAR: Like other parts of the world, married Hindu women in Kashmir observed traditional festival Karva Chauth with religious fervour.
At Indra Nagar in summer capital in Sonwar area, a group of around fifty women who had huddled together at one of the participants home to observe the special pooja on Wednesday late afternoon said that they are observing fast for the whole day without even drinking a drop of water till moon comes out in the sky.
The special prayer is held for the well-being and long life of their husbands.
As the moon comes out around 9 PM, the women will break the fast with a piece of roti shortly after offering prayers.
“At that time we will offer thali to our mother in-law,” Chanchal, a married woman who was part of the group offering special pooja said.
Karva Chauth signifies the start of Rabi crop season in Indian sub-continent.
Indira Nagar is home to scores of Hindu families in Srinagar. The ladies assembled and held the prayers in unison till late this evening.
