Man, the supreme creation of God, was not created in the exact form it exists today. Man has of course undergone a huge transformation from the days of Adam. Ample theories have been put forward to describe the creation and evolution of man. While religious groups may not have been entirely successful in proving their beliefs scientifically, the scientific theories, from teleological to Darwinian, are accompanied with a complete proof due to which most people believe that these theories are an absolute truth. No doubt the scientific theories mesmerise science students but such man-made theories often contradict Islam. For example, Darwinism deems old-world monkeys, gorillas and chimpanzees as our ancestors which completely opposite to what our faith states. This is why Harun Yahya, the famous intellectual from Istanbul has citied that Muslims should not get trapped by such theories which tend to deviate them from their faith and beliefs. How can a person gifted with intellectual bliss believe in such theories which state that the ‘ashraf-ul-makhlooqaat’ evolved from monkeys? Apart from reading and reflecting on all kinds of theories, we, as Muslims, also need to have firm faith in the following verses of the Holy Quran which clearly describe the creation and evolution of man.
“Thy Lord said to the angels, “I’m going to create a human being out of clay.” (38:71)
“We created human being from stinking, smooth and wet clay and moulded into shape.” (15:26)
“Verily we created thou from a drop of a mingled fluid-drop (nutfa) in order to try him: so we gave him the gifts of hearing and sight.”
“Then He shaped him (in due proportions), and breathed in him of His spirits, and made for thee hearing, sight and hearts, little thanks ye give.” (32:9).
“Then he made his offspring from an embodiment of despised water (coming out of parents).” (32:8)
“He designed thou and then made thy design better.”(69:3)
From these verses, it is clear that Adam was made from clay, water and dust and then given a specific shape. Therefore, even in our wildest dreams, we cannot believe that human being evolved from old-world monkeys. In fact our living tissues contain 95% of the elements present in clay. These elements include carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulphur. Now you might think why then don’t the bodies of the present day humans show any resemblance to clay. Well this is because these earthy materials have attained the shape of muscles, bones, flesh and blood. The Quran says;
“Verily, we created man from a product of wet earth, then placed him as a drop (of seed) in a safe lodging, then we fashioned the drop into a clot, then we fashioned the clot into a little lump, then we designed a little lump into bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, and then produced it another creation. So blessed be Allah, the best of creators.” (23:12-14).
As Muslims and as humans, we must appreciate the greatest architect, The Almighty Allah and be highly grateful to Him for including us in the ‘ashraf-ul-makhlooqaat’ and gifting us with the special power of intellect, the same power which we use to think, decipher and decide.
