SRINAGAR: Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) President and MLA Langate Er Rashid on Saturday expressed deep concern over the fate of inhabitants of border areas who are facing enormous problems due to tension at borders.
He appealed state government to take care of their sufferings and ensure that their life and property is safe, a statement issued by the AIP said this afternoon.
The statement said that after interacting with people in various border areas of Kupwara and Handwara today, Rashid asked government to take immediate and appropriate steps to restore confidence among the population.
“Hundreds of families have fled from Machil, Keran, Poshwari, Rengbala, Tetwal, Simari and other border hamlets and are roaming door to door in Kupwara town and adjoining localities. Same is happening in border areas of Jammu, Gurez, Uri and Tanghdar. Government should immediately provide these families proper shelters and ensure that they don’t face hardships and are provided adequate basic needs,” he said.
The MLA Langate added that it is tragic that no competent authority has made a visit to Keran, Nowgam and other places where people face lot of inconveniences and are much apprehensive about developments taking place at borders.
He further asked Government to organize awareness programmes to keep the inhabitants of border areas updated and must apprise the population of border areas about the happenings at borders to avoid rumours.
