Srinagar: Inhabitants of Shivpora on Thursday staged protests against Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide drinking water to them from past more than 10 days.
The residents including men, women and old assembled at the main road and blocked the Srinagar-Jammu national highway with erecting temporary barricades.
Witnesses said that the protesting residents were not allowing commuters to pass through the way.
The residents were chanting slogans against the PHE department and were demanding immediate redressal of their grievances.
The residents while talking to KNS said that the authorities failed to provide them drinking water from past 15 days thereby left the inhabitants to suffer.
“We are tremendous hardships due to the non-seriousness of the authorities in PHE department. We approached the officials in the department as well but unfortunately nothing has been done in this regard,” they said.
The residents said that the authorities should immediately restore the water supply in their area so that the inhabitants here can feel a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, witnesses said that hundreds of vehicles were stranded after the residents of Shivpora blocked the main road during the protests against the water scarcity from past 15 days.
They said that the vehicles remained stranded for more than half an hour.
Meanwhile the residents as per the witnesses later dispersed peacefully. (KNS)
