SRINAGAR: Residents of Khomeini Chowk Bemina have criticized the Power Development Department (PDD) for its failure to complete the work on the power transmission line from Rakh Arath to Bemina in a time-bound manner.
A delegation of the area under the banner of Bemina Development and Welfare Front (BDWF) has said that due to incomplete work on the project, residents of Bemina are facing a lot of hardships.
"Bemina Khomeini Chowk receives power supply from Rakh Arath receiving station feeder 6. The transmission line passes through wetland and paddy fields. Whenever the line gets snapped, the restoration takes days, resulting in long power cuts and erratic power supply," said Syed Sibt-e Ali, chairman of the front.
He said that the front delegation had called on Chief Engineer Electrification division almost a year ago, and he had assured that a new transmission line will be laid through 100-feet road connecting Bemina with Rakh Arath.
"The poles were erected seven-eight months back, but the project was abandoned midway due to unknown reasons. Despite repeated pleas, the work has not resumed till date, adding to the woes of the people," Syed added.
The front has urged the chief minister, power minister, and the chief engineer to get the work done without any further dilly-dallying to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the month of Muharram and forthcoming winter.
"For the convenience of mourners during the month of Muharram, all the pending work projects must be taken up on war-footing. There are many areas in Bemina where electric poles need to be either replaced or new ones installed to ensure that there is no untoward incident during Muharram processions," Syed said.
The front has also said that not a single high-level officer either from district administration or civic bodies has visited the area to take stock of the situation.
