SRINAGAR: The student protests against the “politicisation of education” continued on Thursday.
Students in many parts of Kashmir said that they can not write their examinations given the killing and injuring of civilians since July 09, 2016.
In Srinagar, scores of students marched on Residency Road in Lal Chowk seeking justice for the slain and injured students.
Government has announced that it will hold examination of class tenth and twelfth in November this year, however, it has evoked sharp reaction from the student community.
Holding placards, the students said, “we won’t sit in examination till Kashmir issue resolved.”
“How can study in Operation Tood-Phood,” asked another student.
Kashmir is witnessing a massive public uprising since July 09, 2016, a day after popular militant commander Burhan Wani was killed on July 08, 2016 in Bemdoora area of Islamabad district.
In the premises of Government Medical College, the medical students held protest seeking end to the human rights violations.
“It has been horrible to see the condition of injured persons when they are brought from valley parts for treatment,” a student said. Later, the MBBS and Dental students raised slogans in favour of freedom.
In South Srinagar, holding protests against the announcement of examination, the students in Pantha Chowk said that they were ready to sit in examination “but they won’t do so”. “Freedom is priority,” they said. “We are being killed and maimed and now the same people who are responsible for such actions shamelessly call for exams,” the students who wearing their school uniforms said.
In South Kashmir’s Tral town, dozens of students held a protest demonstration against the government for announcing examination dates.
Tral is home town of slain Burhan Wani. “On one hand, government is perpetrating atrocities on us and on the other they are asking us to appear in the examinations,” said the students who said that they are “ready to sacrifice their future for Kashmir”.
“Boycott, boycott, examination boycott, Justice for Insha, justice for pellet survivors; all the minors and school going children must be freed from jails, justice for our lost brothers; won’t appear in exams until Kashmir issue is resolved, Save Children Save Future,” read some of the placards held by the students.
The students said that Kashmir is a political problem and it should be resolved politically. “We are ready to sacrifice our future for freedom. We won’t appear in any exam unless Kashmir issue is resolved,” they added.
In Pulwama, students said that until and unless, human rights violations are not stopped, they won’t sit in examination.
Carrying placards with messages like “give me eyesight, I will take my exam (sic)”, ‘No exams till the solution’, ‘First pellets, then bullets, now exam’ and ‘boycott exams’, the protesters said that they would boycott examinations until the “human rights violations” in Kashmir were not stopped.
In Islamabad, students held early morning protests saying that they were ready sacrifice their future for “freedom of Kashmir”.
Earlier, similar protests were held in Bandipora, Srinagar and Shopian districts of Kupwara with students shouting slogans against J&K government.
