Kishtwar: As night raids continue in Kishtwar district of Chenab Valley in Jammu region to nab those who raised pro-Kashmir freedom slogans and participated in protest marches against civilian killings in Kashmir, authorities Monday didn’t lift the curbs and curfew in the district. A police official told news agency CNS curfew remained in vogue to maintain order in the district.
Sources said that the arrest spree continued in the district while during the nocturnal raids many people including a government employee Ajaz Ahmed Kelam, of Fareedia Mohallah Kishtwar was arrested while according to police the ‘wanted’ persons have gone into hiding and have been evading arrest.
Ajaz Ahmed Kelam is an employee of Sheep Husbandry Department and is posted at Marwah block of Kishtwar District. A police official said that the accused government employee was wanted in FIR number 157/2016 registered under various acts of sedition at police station Kishtwar for his involvement in taking part in protests and instigating the youths for anti-India protest,” he said.
Reports said that at least six persons were injured after locals clashed with government forces during the nocturnal raid. Meanwhile, government forces continued to raid at key locations of Imam Bunastan Masjid Kishtwar Qari Manzoor Ganaie who gave slip to police during last Saturday night raid in which two of his associates, Abdul Qayoom Bagban and Saif-ud-Din Baghwan were arrested and booked under Public Safety Act and subsequently lodged in Kotbalwal jail Jammu.
Police said that Manzoor Ahmad Ganaie is “most wanted” among the resistance leadership and added, “his freedom is detrimental to long lasting peace in Kishtwar District.”
Meanwhile, curfew continued in sensitive Kishtwar district for the second consecutive day on Monday. Heavy security deployment was seen in restive areas of Bunastan, Bagwan Mohallah, Umar Mohallah, Sangrabata and other areas.
Meanwhile, Muslim community observed a complete shutdown in twin districts of Bhaderwah and Doda against the arrest of three people, including two Imams, and holding people “hostage” by imposing curfew. Shops, other business establishments and some private schools of the Muslim community remained closed. However, government schools, offices and banks are functioning normally. Traffic movement was also normal.
The shutdown call was issued by Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah and Markazi Seerat Committee Doda simultaneously to protest against civil Administration and Police for arresting and raiding the houses of innocent people of Kishtwar, allegedly at the behest of some RSS-backed politicians and bureaucrats. “The shutdown was also being observed to show solidarity with Kashmiri people, who are being constantly subjected to worst kind of Human Rights Violations since last 80 days," said a member of Markazi Seerat Committee Doda.
