Srinagar: In a bid to help the poor and needy in these trying times, the locals from Habakadal area of Srinagar city have donated even computers and laptops, cycles, washing machines and refrigerators to locally created Baitul Maal.
“The local population has been contributing generously to the Baitul Mal that has been set up here to help the needy and poor in these trying times. Affluent community are not only donating cash but kind as well while other section of population have been donating their ready-made garments, electronic appliances including computers and laptops, bicycles, lockers, books and whatever they are in possession,” said an elderly person from Aga Hamam Habakadal to news agency CNS.
Almost all the localities across Kashmir have set up Baitul Mals in wake of the appeal made by the Resistance leader Syed Ali Geelani. The Baitul Mals are organized by young people under the guidance of elders have come handy.
“During the past two and a half month I was unable to earn a living but the local Baitul Mal came to my rescue and not only provided cash to me but the organizers also supplied ration and eatables for my family,” said an Auto driver from Habakadal.
The locals said that people understand the urge and needs of poor ones and thus contribute generously. “There are people in our society who donate vegetables and eatables on daily basis. Those who have community kitchen gardens even supply fresh vegetables to needy,” said another local.
The organizers of the Baitul Mal said that get a get amount of money in exchange to these donated goods. “There is a proper system under which money and other items are being distributed among needy. The needy usually don’t contact us but we have already made a list of them and we provide them support both in cash and kind,” they said. (CNS)
